Specify paperboard sheet dimensions and grain direction for your press and carton layout before ordering roll-to-sheet converting.
A sheet size needs a direction
Width and length identify the rectangle; grain direction describes how the material is oriented within it. Two sheets with the same dimensions can behave differently downstream when the grain runs in different directions. Confirm the direction required by your press, scoring, folding, and finished layout before ordering.
Do not rely on an unlabeled notation such as 24 × 36. State the units, indicate which edge runs with the grain, and attach a marked drawing when orientation matters.
Work backward from the press and layout
Ask your production team for the acceptable sheet range, gripper or trim allowances, layout orientation, and finished tolerance. Confirm the material grade and caliper at the same time. A size that fits the machine may still be unsuitable for the intended layout.
For roll-to-sheet work, discuss how the web direction relates to the required sheet. Avoid assuming that swapping the two dimensions is an equivalent order.
Check the complete machine fit
Bengal operates two Marquip sheeters with different incoming and finished-size limits. The published matrix lists maximum outputs of 65 × 80 inches and 59 × 70 inches. Those are machine-specific envelopes; confirm parent width, incoming diameter, grade, output size, and tolerance together.
Give the team enough information to propose a layout without changing the required grain orientation or downstream dimensions.
Agree the acceptance and packaging details
Record the approved dimensions, grain orientation, squareness requirements, stack height, pallet limits, and labeling instructions in the job specification. If a new grade or layout is involved, ask whether sample approval should precede the full run.
