How to Prepare a Film Slitting Trial
Plan a film slitting trial with clear material details, roll requirements, acceptance checks, and approval steps before a larger production order.
Use the trial to answer a production question
A useful slitting trial checks whether a specific material can be converted into a roll that works on your receiving line. Define that question before shipping stock: do you need to confirm the edge, winding, orientation, or performance during unwinding?
Give the converter the current specification and identify any limits you are still developing. A trial quantity is not an approval for a full production order until both sides agree on the results.
Supply representative material and a complete roll target
Describe the film construction, thickness, coating or treatment, and surface orientation. Choose stock representative of the intended order, and disclose known damage or variation. Ask the converter to confirm sample dimensions and quantity before dispatch.
- Parent roll: width, diameter, weight, core size, and lot reference.
- Finished rolls: slit widths, tolerances, core sizes, winding direction, and maximum diameter or weight.
- Process restrictions: permitted splices, surface contact, wrapping, and handling instructions.
Agree what you will inspect
Separate measurable requirements from preferences. Record width and tolerance, orientation, roll identification, and agreed edge and winding criteria. If a particular defect caused trouble before, provide a clear description or photograph.
The receiving-line test matters too. Confirm how rolls will be handled and unwound, who will observe the run, and what result is needed for approval. Do not assume a satisfactory visual inspection proves the roll will work at every line setting.
Turn the results into a repeatable order
Keep the approved specification revision, trial roll identifiers, observations, and any changes made after review. Ask for unresolved points to be settled before releasing a larger quantity.
Bengal can review your material, roll target, and proposed trial. Send the information you have with your required timing, and identify anything that still needs to be confirmed.
Request a Converting Quote
Send your material, incoming dimensions, required output, approximate quantity, and delivery date. We will review the job and confirm what is needed to prepare a quote.
